STATEN ISLAND – A four-car crash on the Verrazano-NarrowsÂ Bridge Monday afternoon left nine people hurt, including one in criticalÂ condition, a spokesman for the MTA said.
The crash happened just before 2 p.m. on the upper level of theÂ Brooklyn-bound side of the bridge, officials said.
Emergency workers had to pull one person from the wreckage, officialsÂ said.
The victims were rushed to Staten Island University Hospital North andÂ Richmond University Medical Center, officials said. Five of the victims hadÂ serious injuries and three had minor injuries, officials said.
The crash initially knocked out two lanes of traffic on the bridge, but theyÂ were reopened about an hour and a half later, the MTA said.
