Chanukah at HANC High School was filled with many exciting events. Some events had HANC students giving back to others, while other events were just about having a good time.
Even before the first candles were lit, HANC students welcomed over 30 members of Yachad and had a pre-Chanukah party that lit up the entire school. Loud music, dreidel games, and dancing filled the school as students and Yachad members got everyone into the true holiday spirit.
Giving to others is what brings real joy and simcha, and HANC had the most successful toy drive ever, run and organized by the Jewish Poor Committee. The students at HANC filled the hallways with toys which were sent out to those who aren’t as fortunate this Chanukah. In addition, the annual Chanukah Auction was a huge success, raising over $3,000.
The school held their annual Chanukah Chagigah on Wednesday morning of Chanukah–and it did not disappoint. After some amazing divreiTorah, and a presentation to the boys’ varsity basketball team Weiner Tournament champions, the music started to pulsate and the dance floor filled up. After an hour of dancing and singing the students still hadn’t had enough, as the chagigah and kumzits stretched into their lunch period. On Friday morning, the school once again gathered together in the gym as the student senate sponsored a fun and wildly entertaining morning for everyone. Ronni Baras, a world-renowned hypnotist, put on a show that had students begging for more.
As Chanukah rolled along, parties took place on a daily basis, some in HANC, and some at the homes of rebbeim and morot. Doughnuts and good food were had by all, but the real fun was in the camaraderie and warm atmosphere of the staff and students connecting outside of the classroom. It was truly a chag for eight full days at HANC, and the memories will warm us throughout the entire winter.
