The Five Towns and Far Rockaway communities are gearing up for Achiezer’s annual gala, to be held at The Sands of Atlantic Beach on January 5, 2020. An evening of energy, excitement, hope, and reflection, this event will be an opportunity to celebrate Achiezer’s tremendous accomplishments on behalf of the community and to pay tribute to a group of outstanding honorees.

The theme of the dinner, “Achi – My Brother, Ezer – My Helper,” will highlight the remarkable work of this trailblazing organization.

From Achiezer’s comprehensive hospital support system to its health-insurance department, its Westwood Financial Management program, its landmark community-wide Zichron Dovid chevra kadisha, its 24-hour community hotline, its mental-health department, and its many other programs, Achiezer is there for the community and the individual, never taking a day off, never resting.

Achiezer will be honoring an exceptional group of dedicated supporters.

Guests of Honor: Jason and Danielle Bokor. Jason’s recognition of Achiezer’s amazing work was enhanced dramatically during the organization’s selfless and heroic assistance provided to families hit by Superstorm Sandy. As president of HAFTR, Jason, on a number of occasions, dealt with Achiezer on student issues.

“For many people, Achiezer’s services are unknown until they are in a situation where they need assistance,” remarks Jason. “Achiezer is there to help and assist in every possible way.”

Man of the Year Award: Dr. Jonathan Herman. A uniquely devoted physician whose chesed-first attitude mirrors the motto of Achiezer, Dr. Herman is an OB-GYN who has delivered over 9,000 babies over the past 30 years and has special interest in the hereditary nature of cancers.

“The bottom line is that I have a job and that job is to help Klal Yisrael,” comments Dr. Herman. “Achiezer’s founder, Rabbi Boruch Ber Bender, views his position in that light. Thus, we have become partners, trying to accomplish the same goal.”

Excellence in Medicine Award: Dr. Daniel and Riki Haller. This special couple reflects the values that Achiezer holds dear. Daniel first became involved in Achiezer through the organization’s medical referral service, helping those who do not have an advocate in the medical field.

“What makes Achiezer one-of-a-kind is that it provides such a wide range of services and programs to the community that it covers almost any need a person or family may have,” says Daniel.

Young Leadership Award: Ari and Deena Weinstein. The Weinsteins’ activism as young leaders in our community has earned them well-deserved admiration. “Achiezer is special not only because it’s a 24/7 crisis hotline and the only of its kind,” says Ari. “It is unique because it is a true community organization. The power of an organization crafted to ‘help brothers out’ is unlike anything else.”

Pillar of Chesed Award: Stacey Zrihen. Stacey is being awarded in recognition of her dedication to Achiezer and her devotion to helping others. Stacey is the senior financial adviser for Achiezer’s Westwood Financial Management program, where she works one-on-one with individuals and families, providing customized financial planning. Stacey has met with over 300 families, helping guide them to financial health and stability.

The dinner chairmen will be Adam Okun and Moshe Wolfson. The journal chairmen will be Zvi Bloom and Moti Hellman.
