Davening at Avnet

The halls at HALB’s Avnet Country Day School resonate with the inspiring sounds of tefillah every morning. Yes, this is camp, but before the ball fields, pools, and specialty rooms are filled with activity, the children begin the day with meaningful davening.

At the DRS campus, the older boys daven in a minyan led by Rabbi Shaya Samet, Rabbi Joey Werner, and Rabbi Reuven Levine.

At the new Woodmere campus, the Agamim and Naharot girls meet in the lunchroom to daven together. The third-grade boys daven in the beis midrash with Rabbi Hillel Lichtman and the rest of the children daven with their groups under the supervision of the chinuch staff. There are even weekly “Tefilah Society” awards to recognize the children and groups who show the most kavanah.

“Avnet is a Torah institution first and we stress the importance of mitzvos, derech eretz, and good middos,” said Director Daniel Stroock. “As much as I enjoy hearing laughter during all our other activities, the beautiful sounds of davening give me the most pride. It means our campers understand that serving Hashem sets the tone for the day.”
