Leading Mekubal in the Yemenite community Rabbi Zechariah Chomri ZT”L was niftar in Rishon L’Tzion at the age of 106. The niftar was viewed as an expert in interpreting ancient kabala and medical seforim. He was among the talmidim of Mekubal Rabbi Chaim Yechyi Sinvani of Yahud. The rav was niftar during the night of 2 Rosh Chodesh Elul.
Known as the “×”×ž×•×¨×™ ×—×•×ž×¨×™”, many sought his advice regarding ancient texts that remain a mystery for most today. He was also sought out by Ashkenazim, and he was visited regularly by Rabbi Avraham Rubin Shlita of Rehovot as well as other Ashkenazi rabbonim. Rav Chomri was a source able to unlock many of the secrets of Yemin that most do not understand; hence rabbonim and others would seek to meet with him. The local population often turned to him for he was known as one capable of working wonders.
The levaya took place on Wednesday, 2 Rosh Chodesh Elul at 16:00 beginning on King David Street in Ramat Eliyahu to the city’s beis hachaim.
