Bikur Cholim Chesed Organization’s “Project for Holocaust Survivors” offers free-of-charge appointments with a soft-spoken geriatric psychiatrist who specializes in trauma. Meetings are available in the Bikur Cholim’s offices or in a senior’s home, if he/she has trouble going outside. Appointments, which are for consultation and medication management, allow for a collaborative relationship between the psychiatrist and the senior’s regular doctor to ensure the best provision of care. This program is offered through the UJA Federation of New York’s Caring Commission, with Maimonides Medical Center. Please call Adina Kerzner, LMSW, at Bikur Cholim Chesed Organization, at 718-438-2020, ext. 7441, for more information or to schedule an appointment.
In addition, Bikur Cholim Chesed Organization and Club Nissim at the Boro Park Y invite female community members who are Holocaust survivors to participate in a great mitzvah! Once a month, on a Wednesday afternoon, a small group of women gather to create 120 craft packages for children in local hospitals. Each arts & crafts kit includes crayons, coloring paper, stickers, and an activity guaranteed to bring a smile to a kid’s face. Cake and coffee is served at the end, as the group relaxes together over a job well done. For more information, please contact Shlomis, at 718-438-2020, ext. 7432. Transportation is available.
