New Year at Central

The new year has been a frenzy of activity, especially for the newly inducted Class of 2019. The annual freshman retreat provides “fresh” students with time away from the bustle of the building to connect with one another and gear up for the wonderful four years ahead of them. Bright and early in the morning, freshmen and their senior “big sisters” traveled to Camp Kaylie for two days of fun and thought-provoking activities. Students met with one another in varying combinations through a series of icebreakers, and they further cemented those budding friendships as they enjoyed the camp’s facilities, playing various sports, swimming, rock-climbing, and go-karting. Interspersed throughout the retreat were meaningful learning opportunities that asked students to look inward and consider the ways in which they hope to take advantage of their high-school years as opportunities for personal and interpersonal growth. The retreat featured something for everyone as students got messy playing “paint wars,” rooted for each other in races run by Powerhouse Studios, and bonded at the bonfire and kumzitz. Central thanks the event organizers and faculty chaperones for making freshman retreat such a success. They can’t wait to see what’s in store!
