Students at Mesivta Yam HaTorah, under the guidance of their science teacher, Mr. Abitbol, have been working on an experiment to produce energy. The boys are working on two different experiments. One involves the production of free energy from a lemon: students are learning how to release electrons to produce electricity and how to measure the force of these electrons. The second experiment involves producing energy from a magnet, where students learn how magnets produce a force field that can be converted into energy. These experiments will be presented at the International Science Fair in New York on March 24, 2014.
Another exciting program offered at the mesivta is the stock market game, under the guidance of history teacher Mr. Barry Grossman. The stock market game is a nationwide program designed to introduce high school students of economics to the world of buying and selling stocks, bonds, and mutual funds. Each team receives $100,000 and has to earn a profit from their buying and selling of stocks, bonds, and mutual funds. Two weeks into the program, things are heating up, as students consider their investment options.
