5 Towns Girls’ Soccer League Wraps Third Season

The 5 Towns Girls’ Soccer League just wrapped its third season. Over 100 girls in the three divisions learned the fundamentals of the game and how to work together as a team while getting a great workout and having a blast! The energetic staff comprised of high-school students and parents did a great job teaching the girls the skills and the rules of the game while still enabling a fun experience. Plans are already underway for next season! Thank you Oppenheimer Orthodontics for being the league sponsor. For more pictures and information, visit 5townsgirlssports.com.

5 Towns Flag Football League Wraps Up Seventh Season

One of three 5 Towns Flag Football League championship teams

What a season for the 5 Towns Flag Football League! Under the leadership of Rabbi Eli Brazil and Larry Gross, the league has just finished its seventh season. Congratulations to the champions in each division. The season and playoffs were beyond amazing, as many of the games were decided in the final seconds/overtime.

The league, which is open to 1st–8th grade boys in the Five Towns and surrounding areas, had 5 divisions with over 30 teams. The ability to play competitive flag football in a structured environment makes this league such a great success. Boys play with midot and respect for every player. Plans are underway for next season, which will hopefully begin in the beginning of September. The league sponsors were once again Gourmet Glatt and S. Adelsberg & Co. Certified Public Accountants.

SKA Celebrates at Sports Dinner

By Tammy Aryeh, Ayelet Deutsch, and Regina Saada

SKA Sports Dinner

It’s been another fantastic year of sports for the Stella K. Abraham High School for Girls! To honor all the amazing achievements of the sports teams, we had the annual SKA Sports Dinner on Monday night, May 20. The Sports Dinner recognized individual athletes with awards as well as teams as a whole. Each team had a few standouts who received trophies in categories such as Most Valuable Player, Sportsmanship, and All-Around Player.

Over 40 awards were presented between all the teams. Mazal tov to Tammy Aryeh who received the All-Around Athlete Award. Tammy played basketball in the winter and hockey in the spring teams all four years of school and shined both on and off the field!

Mazal tov also to the basketball team for winning the championship. The banner for the basketball team champions was presented at the Sports Dinner as well. Many of the teams made it to the playoffs.

We were also privileged to hear from Dr. Karen Green about relating Torah and middot with sports and how to be a team player while enjoying a delicious dinner from Carlos and Gabby’s.

We want to thank all the coaches and teams for their hard work this year and are so sad that the season is coming to an end. Special thanks go to Mrs. Helene Myers, SKA’s athletic director, for all her support.

Judah Rhine, who has been coaching youth basketball for more than 35 years, is co-director of MVP Boys Basketball Camp and MVP Girls Basketball Camp and co‑commissioner of the National Council of Young Israel basketball league. He can be reached at mvp4boys@gmail.com or mvp4girls@gmail.com.
