Yom Yerushalayim, commemorating the reunification of Jerusalem, was celebrated at HAFTR Lower School. This year’s celebration was enhanced by the official opening of the U.S. Embassy in Jerusalem. At the schoolwide assembly, each grade performed a special song, dance, and chant to honor the importance of the day. The daglanut performed by the fifth-graders was a highlight of the festivities.

The b’not sheirut le’umi facilitated activity centers for students to learn about Yerushalayim. Kindergarteners listened to the story of the eight gates of Jerusalem and how the brave chayalim entered the Lion’s Gate to capture the Old City. Little architects worked in groups and used blocks to build the walls of the Old City, including the eight gates and the Kotel. Each group danced around their structures singing “L’shanah ha’ba’ah b’Yerushalayim.”
