On Monday April 29, HALB’s 15 winners from the Long Island Regional Competition for National History Day participated in New York State History Day.

Under the guidance of Ms. Kristen Waterman, their supervising teacher, the HALB representatives joined more than 600 other students in Cooperstown, New York. They presented documentaries and websites, and each of the groups took home medals in their specific categories, with one of the groups advancing to the National History Day Competition in Baltimore, Maryland.

The awards were as follows:

  • 2nd Place Group Documentary. “The Hits Just Keep Coming: Brain Injuries in Professional Football,” by Aharon Cohen, Benjy Fried, Shmuli Glick, Marc Matlis, and Moshe Rattner (advancing to Nationals)
  • 3rd Place Group Documentary. “Built from the Ashes: Chicago,” by Raz Amar, Zevi Friedman, Daniel Grosz, Jonah Mehlman, and Judah Rosenthal
  • 3rd Place Website. “A Train Ride to Hope: The Kindertransport,” by Rebecca Brown, Farrah Crane, Abigail Lampert, Tamara Saffra, and Meira Weinstein.
