For several years, the Hewlett-Woodmere Public Library has been offering passes that provide free admission to museums and attractions on Long Island and in New York City. Recently, the library expanded its museum-pass program to include three more institutions:

The Jewish Museum. Located on Fifth Avenue’s Museum Mile, The Jewish Museum is the first and oldest museum representing Jewish culture and art in the world. Current exhibits include “Isaac Mizrahi: An Unruly History, a celebration of the award-winning Brooklyn-born fashion designer” (through August 7), and “The Television Project: Some of My Best Friends Are,” a look at anti-Semitism on television, featuring clips from All in the Family, Downton Abbey, The Mary Tyler Moore Show, and more (through August 14).

The Holocaust Memorial and Tolerance Center. Housed in the former Pratt Estate within the Welwyn Preserve in Glen Cove, the Holocaust Memorial and Tolerance Center seeks to do more than to teach the public about the Holocaust. Its broad mission includes educating about intolerance, racism, bullying, and about other acts of genocide both past and present, and promoting dignity and respect for all human beings. The Center also features the Children’s Memorial Garden and the Posner Library. (Recommended for ages 10 and up.)

Old Westbury Gardens. Listed on the National Register of Historic Places, Old Westbury Gardens and Phipps Mansion is one of Long Island’s favorite spots to visit. Throughout the spring and into the fall, the site offers an ever-changing landscape to view. The mansion is also open to visitors. During the year, Old Westbury Gardens also sponsors indoor and outdoor concerts, the popular “Dog Days,” lectures, and other events.

Passes are also available to: The Cradle of Aviation Museum, Firefighters Museum, Long Island Children’s Museum, Nassau County Museum of Art, Museum of Modern Art, the New York Botanical Gardens, The Guggenheim, and the Intrepid Sea, Air, and Space Museum Complex.

The passes are available to residents of the Hewlett-Woodmere Union Free School District, 18 years or older, who hold HWPL borrowers cards and are in good standing (no outstanding fines, et al). Because of high demand, reservations are recommended. Reservations can be made in person, by phone, or online. For more details, visit www.hwpl.org and look for “Museum Pass Information” under Programs and Services.

The Hewlett-Woodmere Public Library is located at 1125 Broadway, Hewlett. For more information, call 516-374-1967.
