Nassau County Executive Laura Curran and Hempstead Town Supervisor Laura Gillen will honor a group of 1969 New York Mets players in celebration of the team’s 50th anniversary of their legendary World Series victory. The ceremony will take place on Sunday, March 24, 2019 at 2:00 pm at Stew Leonard’s, 1897 Front Street in East Meadow, NY.

Stew Leonard, Jr., president and CEO of the family owned and operated grocery chain, will join the former players, fans and customers to announce that their stores will be donating to the Alzheimer’s Foundation of America in tribute of legendary Hall of Famer Tom Seaver, who was recently diagnosed with dementia.

Nassau County and Hempstead Town will also be honoring Stew Leonard’s, which started five decades ago as a small dairy store, as well as the 1969 Mets players who will be raising awareness for their former teammates with dementia and Alzheimer’s disease, Tom Seaver and Bud Harrelson. Alzheimer’s disease accounts for 60 percent to 80 percent of dementia cases.
