There is growing fear among IDF soldiers operating in Judea and Samaria (the West Bank) that they are sitting ducks for Palestinian sniper fire, the Hebrew news site Walla reported on Monday.

Their anxiety was aroused as a result of Friday’s sniper attack on two Israelis at the Cave of the Patriarchs in the heart of the Old City of Hebron.

The Shin Bet, Israel’s internal security service, has been searching for the sniper, who has so far evaded capture. Infantry soldiers in the Givati Brigade who are stationed in Hebron feel that the escalation in the number and type of terror attacks indicates that another such incident is just around the corner, according to Walla. “If, as our commanders are saying, the Palestinians have been copying each other’s vehicular and stabbing attacks, why wouldn’t they copy the sniper who shot at two civilians at the Cave of the Patriarchs?” the soldiers questioned.

One officer told Walla that the area is so dangerous that, “All we can do is constantly change our routine – not be visible and keep on the move. If you stand still, you’re exposed.”
