The Max and Ruth Schwartz Yeshivat Hesder of S’derot is calling on friends and supporters worldwide to host Super Bowl parties while reserving “halftime” of the big game to remember their brothers and sisters who are thriving in S’derot despite living under fire for over a decade. The hesder will be sending party hosts promotional materials including a DVD and brochures informing their guests of how they can help the hesder during these difficult times. The hesder is most pressed to secure funds for the completion of “Kassam-proof” dormitories currently under construction on the hesder’s secondary campus. In addition, the hesder has launched outreach programs for IDF soldiers and the youth of S’derot. Funding is also needed to support the hesder’s religious court and to train future dayanim (judges). “Despite the situation in S’derot, the Yeshivat Hesder continues to grow and to thrive, making a big difference in the lives of the residents of our steadfast community,” said Rabbi David Fendel, rosh yeshiva of the hesder. “The Super Bowl for S’derot campaign provides our friends and supporters a unique opportunity to help to protect our student/soldiers under fire while allowing us to do our part to volunteer and give and back to the proud residents of our town.” Founded in 1994, the Yeshivat Hesder in S’derot is one of the biggest hesder yeshivot in all of Israel. With a student body of over 500 pupils from communities all over the country, the hesder combines intense Torah study with Israel’s mandatory army service. Over the past decade, students in hesder programs across Israel have emerged as the most resilient and committed soldiers in the IDF and students from the S’derot hesder are no exception.
