Topeka mayor, Bill Bunten, has been named the CEO of Google.com, in a remarkably fast-paced changing business climate. The procession of events began when Topeka, Kansas mayor announced a temporary name change of the city to “Google, Kansas†last month. Today, Google responded with a name change from Google to Topeka.
At the start of the business day on April 1st, a spokesman for Topeka, the newly re-named company, announced that Eric Schmidt was leaving the company to take over as chief of staff of the Obama Administration and that Topeka mayor, Bill Bunten will take over Schmidt’s position. Schmidt will be taking over Rahm Emmanuel’s position.
“This was necessary in light of the disastrous developments between U.S./Israel relations,†remarked Rick Lazio, Obama’s new appointee as Secretary of State. Lazio replaced Hillary Clinton late last night in a political reshuffling.
Co-founders Larry Page, president of Products, and Sergey Brin, president of Technology, brought Google, er, Topeka to life in September 1998 after being coached and advised by Al Gore – the inventor of the Internet. Since then, the company has grown to more than 10,000 employees worldwide, with a management team that represents some of the most experienced technology professionals in the industry. Eric Schmidt joined Google as chairman and chief executive officer in 2001.
