Jerusalem- A report by the Interfax news agency indicates that Russian authorities may back out of a contract to supply Iran with S-300 missile systems due to UN sanctions.
Â
The article quotes Alexander Fomin, a Russian military official, as stating that Moscow will not supply the Islamic Republic with "large missile systems." Iran signed a purchase contract for the missiles in 2007.
Â
According to Interfax "Russia is generally winding down military-technical cooperation with Iran in connection with the adopted UN Security Council resolution."
Â
After the latest round of UN sanctions were passed, Mikhail Margelov, head of the Federation Council's Foreign Affairs Committee announced that the new measures aimed at curbing Iran's nuclear program were not "paralyzing or suffocating" and would not impede the delivery of the missiles.
