( A travel website owner says that a Jewish customer who wanted to be on the missing Malaysia Airlines Flight 370 reportedly avoided the catastrophe because an Orthodox Jewish travel agent refused to book him on the flight from Kuala Lumpur to Beijing, which was flying on Shabbat. The traveler instead booked an earlier Friday flight, taking the agent’s advice.

According to Daniel Eleff, a friend of the travel agent and CEO of the Cleveland-based travel website, the Jewish traveler, who called himself Andy, wrote an email to the travel agent after the Malaysia Airlines Flight 370 plane disappeared.

“Holy God, You sure[ly] heard what happened to [Malaysian Airlines flight 370]… I cannot stop thinking about this. This is a true miracle for the books. You are a true life saver,” Andy wrote.

“I am so happy for you!” the travel agent wrote back. “Not [that] I am the life saver. God and Shabbat were your life savers. You owe them something,” he wrote.

According to Eleff, the travel agent and passenger wish to remain anonymous. “They are choosing to wait until the fate of the flight in known to determine if they’ll go public,” he told the Forward.
