Last night Rav Avrohom Ginzberg, the executive director of Yeshiva Chofetz Chaim in Queens, passed away after a surgical procedure. Rav Ginsburg z”l was the right hand man of Rav Henoch Leibowitz z”tl the Rosh Yeshiva of Chofetz Chaim for well over half a century and took the entire load of fund raising off the shoulders of the Rosh haYeshiva.
His dedication to the Rosh Yeshiva and to the Yeshiva was unparalleled. In addition to his work for the Yeshiva he was the Rav of the shul located in the Yeshiva building in Forest Hills. The proceeds from the shul helped support the Yeshiva. Rav Ginzberg’s dedication to the older members of the synagogue continued on even after the Yeshiva moved to its present location in Kew Gardens Hills.
“He was a very fine man, a Talmid Chochom, and a gentleman,” remarked Rabbi Yaakov Feitman, a colleague of Rabbi Ginzberg’s son in the Five Towns.
Rav Avrohom arrived on the shores of the United States after living through the churban in Europe. The Yeshiva took him in upon his arrival and ever since then he looked at the Yeshiva as both his father and mother.
Rav Ginzberg’s remarkable sense of Hakaras HaTov toward others was manifest in how he himself took care of Dr. Raymond Feinberg, z”l, Rav Henoch Leibowitz’s own personal physician. When Dr. Feinberg took ill it was Rabbi Ginsberg who was one of the people that stayed with him around the clock.
The levaya will be held in Yeshiva Chofetz Chaim in Kew Gardens Hills at 1:00 PM.
Rav Ginsberg is survived by his aishes Chayil, Adele, Rav Aryeh Zev Ginzberg Shlita, a Rav in the Five Towns, Rabbi Yissochor Ginzberg, a menahel in MTJ in Manhattan and two daughters, Mrs. Toby Teichman and Mrs. Rachel Schlissel.
