For generations Jews throughout the world have taken pride in baking matzos. From Europe to Israel to the United States, the custom amongst G-d-fearing Jews has been to make or purchase matzos baked by hand with the proper intention, "l'sheim matzos mitzvah." Here in the Five Towns and Far Rockaway community we will now have the opportunity to have a personal attachment to this most important mitzvah. Under the leadership of Reb Aharon Kaplan, Tiferes Matzah Bakery is be'H opening here in Lawrence.
Reb Aharon is fondly known in the local community and has an impressive track record running local businesses. His impressive list of managerial credentials includes KRM Supermarket ("Kollel Store") in Brooklyn, Kosherworld of Far Rockaway, and Zomicks in Cedarhurst. Aharon is the son of a local mohel and rebbi, Rabbi Yehuda Kaplan. His wife, Brochie, is the daughter of Rabbi Chanina Herzberg of Yeshiva Toras Chaim of South Shore.
From its earliest planning stages, no compromises were made in ensuring maximum kashrus at Tiferes. Reb Aharon has engaged HaRav HaGaon Rav Yisrael Belsky to be the rav ha'machshir for the operation. Rav Belsky is world-renowned for his expertise and broad knowledge in all areas of Torah, especially kashrus. Currently, Rav Belsky is the senior rabbi on staff for the Orthodox Union. By engaging Rabbi Belsky, Tifers Matzah is ensuring no compromises in producing 100 percent authentic handmade matzos. Tiferes Matzah is located at 210 Beach 2nd Street in Lawrence, just off Seagirt Boulevard. The bakery is housed in its own structure and has ample parking conveniently located nearby. The building will be used solely for the purpose of baking matzos. The bakery has two matzah ovens, twenty-four rollers, and completely separate rooms for water and flour. Under the guidance of Rav Belsky, Tiferes Matzah has purchased special utensils, tables, and other smaller vessels to help insure that mehadrin min ha'mehadrin standards are met.
To benefit the local populace, Tiferes Matzah has set up a glass viewing booth that overlooks the entire baking process. Our local yeshivas can conveniently plan school trips to educate our youngsters in this mitzvah. The viewing booth will be open to local families, as well, for a quick family outing. The entire baking process will be narrated to help ensure the children's comprehension of what they are seeing and promote pride in the mitzvah. In ensuring that all matzos are mehudar, Tiferes is pleased to announce that the entire process of baking, from beginning to end, is being done by shomer Shabbos workers as well as local bachurim and kollel yungerleit.
The bakery will be producing regular (white-flour) matzah, as well as whole wheat. Handmade matzah meal will be sold, as well. All products will be available in local stores as well as via Internet orders. Please visit tiferesmatzah.com to place orders and to view videos, guidelines, and insights on the different halachos that affect matzah baking and eating. The complete website is scheduled to be up and running in January.
Tiferes Matzah is proud to inform the local community that the bakery will be open to chaburos, as well. Many of us for years have traveled far distances to hand-bake matzos for Pesach. There are even greater amounts of us who never had the privilege to bake matzos. The community is invited to form chaburos with their rav or friends and bake their matzos at Tiferes. The entire baking process with chaburos will be under the guidance of the mashgiach at all times.
Assisting Reb Aharon in daily operations at Tiferes Matzah are Mr. Eli Lieber and Rabbi Elchonon Herzberg. The bakery will be open to all private, shul, business and wholesale accounts. All phone and Internet orders have the option of delivery. The matzos are being sold in beautiful colorful boxes. Much thought has been placed in the design to ensure satisfaction when the box is visible at the Seder table. The boxes and the state-of-the-art website are designed by Danny Kay Design. The building, engineering, and construction were led by David Elefant and Ephraim Mittman of Mittman Electric.
Please contact Reb Aharon Kaplan for all business inquiries at tiferesmatzah@yahoo.com or 516-371-2327. For chaburos and school trips, please contact tifersmatzah3@yahoo.com. Please leave all contact information and allow ample time for a response. Chaburos will not commence before February 2008.
Every aspect of Tiferes Matzah has been carefully thought out. As the name Tiferes ("glory") implies, the goal of Tiferes Matzah is to provide a matzah for Yom Tov that the consumer will take pride in and that will glorify their yom tov.
