According to Pirkei Avos, Ethics of the Fathers, at 40 one reaches the age of understanding. While Rabbi Zalman Wolowik, Director of Chabad of the Five Towns, cannot claim to understand all of Hashem's ways, his outstanding success at kiruv, outreach... and as a community leader demonstrates a keen understanding of human nature and how to get things done. On Sunday, April 19, the 25th of Nissan, a few of the rabbi's friends and family organized a unique birthday celebration for his 40th birthday.
In addition to the farbrengen on Shabbos, it had been arranged by Rebbetzin Chanie Wolowik that at least 40 men who are not regular minyan attendees or "tefillin daveners" join for Sunday morning Shacharis followed by a birthday breakfast and Gemara shiur. "It was a wonderful opportunity to call many community members and Hebrew School parents to join in this most meaningful birthday present for the rabbi." said Rabbi Meir Geisinsky, Youth Director at Chabad of the Five Towns. Rabbi Wolowik was delighted and touched by the beautiful turnout and the "spiritual" birthday present he received.
