Way before think tanks and focus groups, Hashem understood the same question sociologists face today: how to ensure the everlasting continuity of a nation. The answer: children. If children can carry on the tradition of their parents, success is guaranteed for all eternity.
Most recently, Chabad launched the Torah 4 Levi program in which children win raffle tickets for prizes based on how much they learn. Community members are encouraged to participate by sponsoring a children's sefer Torah in memory of Levi Yitzchak Wolowik, a'h. The Wolowiks encourage everyone to learn and give as a celebration of Shavuos and Torah, and an aliyah for Levi's neshamah. For more information, visit www.torah4levi.com or call 516-295-2478.
As another way to introduce children to Torah in a fun way, Chabad will have an ice cream party. Did we say ice cream party? Ice cream extravaganza would be more descriptive. Chabad's Shabbos youth groups gather dozens of children from each age group to celebrate Shabbos and yom tov in a kid-friendly way. Parents can enjoy uninterrupted davening, assured their infants, toddlers, older children, and pre-teens are all enjoying age-appropriate activities. ChilÂdren drag their parents by the hand to bring them to the groups which feature games, snacks, toys, and songs. On Shavuos, everyone will enjoy extra fun in the form of a Shavuos bingo game, Shavuos stories, and 49 toppings to go with their Shavuos ice cream.
Shavuos is customarily a time to bring out the milchig dishes, as we enjoy dairy cuisine to remember our ancient switch to a kosher lifestyle. Ice cream usually helps entice children to come to hear the Ten Commandments. But isn't 49 toppings a bit much? Well, we waited 49 days after leaving Egypt to receive the Torah. Beyond sprinkles and cherries, toppings include mini chocolate-covered pretzels, mini jelly beans, flower sprinkles, and just about every flavor of syrup a kid can imagine.
This "Torah with a cherry on top" approach is representative of the year-round environment at the Chabad of the Five Towns' Camp Gan Israel, Gan Chamesh preschool, Hebrew school, Cheder Menachem Mendel, Bagel Babies mommy and me program, Youth Zone, Chai Five Mitzvah Club, Rabbi and the Mitzvah Men, Bat and Bar Mitzvah clubs, Teen Talk, and Friendship Circle for children with special needs. Don't let your child miss out on all the fun-visit www.chabad5towns.com or call 516-295-2478 for more information.
