A sunny June Friday saw the conclusion of the JV MYHSAL inter-yeshiva softball league in an epic showdown between the 1st-place MAY Eagles and the 2nd-place YDE Cougars. With much tension in the air, the championship game began as the Eagles took the field and kept their opponents scoreless before being turned down themselves. The stalemate continued through four innings, neither team making an error, but neither team scoring.
In the top of the 5th inning the Cougars struck first, adding two runs and holding the Eagles scoreless once again. In the bottom of the 6th, with only one inning left to play and down 2–0, the Eagles rallied. Hitting back-to-back doubles, they brought the lead to within one run. With the bases loaded, two outs, two strikes, and the score 2–1 in favor of the Cougars, Yaakov Liviem blasted a double off the wall, bringing all three baserunners home and giving MAY a 4–2 lead to ultimately win the game!
“The craziest game I’ve ever seen,” said a fan. “In softball, anything can happen.”
After accepting the trophy, Coach Zack Kessler commented, “I can’t even express how proud I am of my guys. They battled through game after game, no matter the conditions, just giving it everything they’ve got, and going undefeated to win it all.”
It has been quite a year for the JV Eagles, who won the Mesivta Football League championship as well and look to add to their growing trophy case in the coming year. As expressed by shortstop and quarterback Moshe Bistritsky, “It has been unbelievable and I can’t wait to do it all again next year.” 
