At the request of the Queens community, The Pittsburgher Rebbe, shlita, R’ Mordechai Yissacher Ber Leifer of Ashdod, will be visiting, iy’H from Thursday, November 19 through Monday, November 23. The Pittsburgher Rebbe, a scion of the famed Nadvorna Chassidic dynasty, is world renowned for his advice and berachos, as well as the yeshuos that he has brought to thousands of Klal Yisrael. With a listening ear and an ability to connect with each individual according to their needs, the Rebbe has touched the lives of all who know him.
Whether one is Chassidish or Litvish, Yeshivish, Modern or not-yet-frum, each visitor is greeted by the Rebbe with the warmth of a dear relative. His kindness and sensitivity permeate the advice he gives to the many who seek him out for matters ranging from parnassah to berachos for shidduchim and having children. Visitors leave feeling that a burden has been lifted from their shoulders.
The Pittsburgher Rebbe is the grandson of the Tzidkas Yosef, Rav Yosef Leifer, zt’l, who immigrated to the United States in the 1930s and settled in Pittsburgh. R’ Yosef quickly became well-known for his tremendous acts of chesed and warmth toward all Jews. Rav Yosef’s son, Rabbi Avraham Abba Leifer, left Pittsburgh to settle in Newark where his warmth was immediately felt by the entire community. Years later, many lovingly reminisce about the time they spent in the previous Rebbe’s home. When R’ Yosef passed away, his son returned to Pittsburgh, escaping Newark only a short time before the riots of 1967 destroyed the entire Newark Jewish community.
After a short while in Pittsburgh, Rabbi Avraham Abba Leifer moved to Eretz Yisrael, settling in Ashdod, a place which at that time was devoid of a religious presence. Slowly and with much perseverance the Rebbe was mekarev many Jews, changing the face of Ashdod. Today, a mere 30 years after the arrival of the previous Pittsburgher Rebbe, Ashdod is the third largest chareidi city in Israel behind Yerushalayim and Bnei Brak.
The current Pittsburgher Rebbe continues to delve in the holy work of his father building Mosdos Pittsburgh in Ashdod. The community includes a yeshivah ketanah with over 500 students, a yeshivah gedolah, a kollel, and a beis hora’ah where any member of the community can come to find answers to their halachic questions.
Frequently, the Rebbe can be found meeting with a wide spectrum of people, giving advice and assistance until the early morning hours. Whether a visitor seeks out the Rebbe for a shidduch, refuah, parnassah, or a berachah, he is immediately impressed by the overwhelming warmth and empathy that the Rebbe bestows upon him. Additionally, many Americans find it especially easy to connect with the Rebbe who speaks English fluently.
On his previous visit to Queens, the Pittsburgher Rebbe was met with an overwhelming turnout of people waiting to speak with him. Therefore, he has agreed to set aside some time on this trip in which to schedule private consultations. Throughout his stay, the Rebbe will be staying at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Charles-Edouard Gros and spending time visiting the various yeshivos and institutions in Queens. Everyone is cordially invited to take advantage of this special opportunity. For more information, please call 718-704-4821. ♦
