A new house off the corner off the corner of Elvira and Annapolis burned down at 5:00 AM Wednesday morning with the smoke being felt some fifteen blocks away. Notwithstanding the intense rain, the smoke permeated the area for blocks. The smoke was so intense that neighbors blocks away felt that the fire might have been in their own home.
The house that burned down was actually an unoccupied guest house on a property with a much larger house on the property as well. Both houses were unoccupied – and were under construction. Construction was almost completed, and it was redone beautifully. The construction was in progress for close to one year and a half in progress. Three ambulances were also on the scene.
Although the cause of the fire is not yet known, neighbors believe that it was probably electrical in origin. Damage to the main house was also extensive. Another house across the street also had an electrical fire last week.
Thanks to the alacrity of the Far Rockaway Fire Department, the fire was put out quickly. ♦
