American Friends of Bar-Ilan University (AFBIU) is pleased to announce the appointment of Dr. Nina Hanan as its new chief executive officer (CEO). Dr. Hanan assumed her new role beginning June 1 from AFBIU’s New York City headquarters.
Dr. Hanan will be joining AFBIU after several years as the chief development officer with Friends of the Israel Defense Forces (FIDF). She brings a distinguished career of over 25 years as a nonprofit executive and management professional, and a strategic and innovative thinker with a successful track record serving the Jewish community. Prior to joining FIDF in 2015, she was the chief development officer at the Anti-Defamation League (ADL).
“I am absolutely delighted to begin this exciting new chapter of my career with AFBIU,” said Dr. Hanan. “Bar-Ilan University is one of Israel’s leading institutions of higher learning. I look forward to expanding its renown across America, and to supporting life altering research at the university that impacts Israel and the world.
Dr. Hanan grew up in Israel and holds a BA from City College of New York and a Ph.D. in political science from the Graduate School and University Center at the City University of New York. She is a member of the board of directors of Women in Development (WID) and served as co-chair of WID’s President’s Council.
“We couldn’t be more pleased with our choice of Nina Hanan for our chief executive position,” says Alan Zekelman, chairman of the board for AFBIU. “Nina stood out for her enthusiasm, intelligence, strategic mindset, and dynamic personality. We believe she has all the qualities that will allow her, in partnership with key stakeholders, to lead AFBIU to a new level of fundraising success.”
Established in 1955, Bar-Ilan University is one of Israel’s leading institutions of higher education and the only one which combines cutting edge scientific research with education steeped in Jewish values.
