September 24, Stolen Car Parts, Far Rockaway. Around 10:30 a.m., a group of three men, posing as mechanics, were observed stealing car parts from vehicles on B.Â 9 Street. This incident occurred numerous times within the 100th and 101st Precinct areas. The RCSP video surveillance team is reviewing video footage of the crimes in action, to hand over to the 101st Detective Squad. Police reports were filed and the matter remains under investigation with the NYPD. Please call the RCSP 24-hour hotline at 917-RCSP-306 (917-727-7306) immediately if you see any suspicious activity.
September 27, Vandalism, Bayswater. Around 9:20 p.m., four men were seen throwing rocks through a window of a house on B.Â 25th Street between Healy and Bayswater Avenues. The RCSP video surveillance team has obtained video footage of the perpetrators and handed over to the 101st Detective Squad. A police report was filed and the matter remains under investigation with the NYPD. This is the second such incident in as many weeks.
September 28, Car Break-In, 2 Arrests, Far Rockaway. Around 1:45 a.m., RCSP patrol volunteers observed two men breaking into a car and entering a backyard on Jarvis between B.Â 6 and Reads. The RCSP volunteers maintained a visual of the perpetrators until police responded and arrested the perpetrators. Two remotes of other vehicles were found in the perpetrators’ possession possibly to be used for other criminal activity. Neighbors are urged to avoid leaving any valuables including keys or remotes in their vehicles.
September 29, Car Break-Ins, Bayswater. Early morning, a car parked on Bay 24 Street between Healy and Bayswater and another on Samantha Drive were broken into. The RCSP video surveillance team is retrieving and reviewing video evidence to hand over to the NYPD. Police reports were filed and the matters remain under investigation with the NYPD.
October 1, Grand Larceny, Arrest, Far Rockaway. As a follow-up to a previous security alert, and thanks to the coordinated efforts of the 101st Detective Squad and the RCSP, a housekeeper was arrested at 8:00 a.m. for stealing numerous pieces of jewelry from homes in Far Rockaway. The RCSP video surveillance team obtained video evidence and the 101st Detective Squad was able to trace the stolen items back to a local pawn shop where the perpetrator exchanged them for cash.
October 1, Car Break-In, Bayswater. Early morning, a car parked on Meehan between B.Â 6 and B.Â 7 was broken into. Police reports were filed and the matter remains under investigation with the NYPD.
Holiday enhanced security. The NYPD will dispatch special patrols exclusively dedicated to houses of worship. These patrols will not respond to any calls. The RCSP will have marked patrol cars in Far Rockaway and Bayswater each night (as usual). RCSP patrol volunteers will conduct foot patrols. On the holiday of Simchas Torah, the NYPD will increase its presence on Cornaga Avenue from B.Â 25th Street to Reads Lane. Those who wish to walk between Bayswater and Far Rockaway are encouraged to do so via Cornaga Avenue.
Holiday Safety Tips. Please do not leave out chairs, tables, tools, or ladders before or after assembling your sukkah as these items may be used for criminal activity. If you are going away, you may contact the RCSP via e-mail with your name, address, and emergency contact number. The RCSP will increase patrol in that area while you are gone.
Volunteers Needed. The Far Rockaway and Bayswater divisions of night patrols are in need of volunteers. Volunteers are scheduled to patrol once or twice per month between 9:00 p.m. and midnight.
