The scheduled opening of registration for the third annual NYRR Celebrate Israel Run presented by the Jewish Community Relations Council of New York was Wednesday, March 6, at www.nyrr.org. The run, which last year drew an enthusiastic, sold-out crowd of more than 7,000 registrants, will take place on Sunday, June 2, in Central Park.
The four-mile counterclockwise course starts near Central Park’s SummerStage (roughly East Drive and 68th Street), goes around the reservoir, and concludes at the 72nd Street Transverse. The course is designed to represent a run through Israel, as runners will start in Eilat (the southern end of the course) and pass through other Israeli cities along the way, including Tel Aviv at the finish line.
“The Celebrate Israel Run is a great way to begin parade day, and I’m proud to announce that it’s continuing again this year,” said Michael Miller, executive vice president and CEO of JCRC-NY.
“The Jewish Community Relations Council of New York is honored that thousands of New Yorkers and people from across the tri-state area and beyond join us in Central Park, whether as runners or spectators, to show their support for the State of Israel,” adds Miller.
Following the race, JCRC-NY will host a festival featuring live Israeli music and food, an awards ceremony, and more.
The Celebrate Israel Run is part of the larger Celebrate Israel Initiative, a partnership between JCRC-NY, the Consulate General of Israel in New York, and UJA-Federation of New York, aimed at honoring the impact Israel has on the lives of New Yorkers. The initiative produces arts, sports, and community events and programs that provide meaningful opportunities for New Yorkers to come together and honor the Jewish State.
The annual Celebrate Israel Parade, scheduled for June 2 at 11:00 a.m. on Fifth Avenue in Manhattan, is the initiative’s marquee event. Be sure to visit the Celebrate Israel Run and Parade on Facebook and Twitter, and check out www.celebrateisraelny.org for the latest updates. v
