Two months ago, we highlighted Elite Care — the gold standard of home healthcare providers. Since then, the company has stepped forward to express gratitude to and support the healthcare workers, police, firefighters, and other fearless frontline heroes with kosher food packages as they wage battle against the insidious spread of COVID-19.

Since its inception, the focus of Elite Care has always been on providing superior one-on-one care 24 hours a day, seven days a week. Matching clients with the nurses, caregivers, and companions who best fit the physical and emotional needs of the client and family, whether at home or in a hospital or facility. Eli Kohn, the company’s personable director of geriatric services, and his dedicated staff, are committed to doing everything they can to keep people happy and independent while in their own home.

Comprised of compassionate, caring, consummate professionals, every member of the Elite Care team is warm and bursting with life. “We don’t just send anybody — our caregivers radiate positivity and enthusiasm,” Mr. Kohn shared. “We offer a diverse option of multilingual caregivers, all of whom are licensed and bonded and are trained to assist with non-medical care. Additionally, they undergo a strict screening process and are trusted to assist clients with their needs. Every person we send represents the Elite Care commitment to providing our clients with the highest level of service, treating your loved ones with dignity and respect. Prioritizing the needs of our clients, our caregivers are among the unsung heroes who have been on the frontlines since the onset of the pandemic, meticulously following all safety guidelines, while promoting positivity and joy to the patients entrusted to their care.”

Grateful for his staff’s level of professional and dedicated service, he is particularly sensitive and appreciative of all healthcare workers and frontline first responders and decided to pay it forward. “While most of us were safe at home, there were amazing people who were putting their own lives at risk each day and night — many even working double shifts in order to save lives. I decided to find a meaningful, substantial way to give back and thank these amazing people who have been tirelessly giving of themselves, often skipping meals during the week and unable to experience an Oneg Shabbos due to the lack of kosher food availability and their frenetic work schedules.”

When he heard about the Kosher Response, an exciting new initiative that was creating buzz throughout the community and beyond, he was intrigued. “What had started as a small idea was evolving into a community-wide project that was branching out throughout the country,” Mr. Kohn enthuses. “The response was phenomenal and multi-generational, infusing entire families with a fervor to volunteer their time and efforts for this exemplary endeavor. I did my due diligence and was so impressed, I immediately decided to come aboard as a corporate sponsor.”

Launched by Gabriel Boxer, the “Kosher Guru,” the Jewish Response aims to show gratitude and perform random acts of kindness by delivering food packages to our heroes on the front lines. These exemplary individuals include doctors, nurses, hospital staff, EMS workers, police, and other frontline heroes who are saving lives and keeping us safe. The food packages are distributed to all of the aforementioned exemplars of valor, regardless of ethnicity, in appreciation of their heroic efforts.

Throughout the New York area, volunteers and donors have stepped up in support of the project. On a recent Friday, hundreds of Shabbos meals were delivered to 15 hospitals in the area, including the U.S. Navy COVID Response at Javits Center, Columbia Presbyterian Hospital, and Mount Sinai.

Additionally, the initiative organized 2,400 bags of food for the last day of Pesach. In accordance with social distancing guidelines, volunteers from North Woodmere packed the food, which was delivered by additional volunteers who came from throughout the Five Towns area.

Recently, Daniella Gewirtz, Emma Boczko, and Leah Mandelbaum and their families joined Kosher Response for a day of mitzvos and chesed while performing a kiddush Hashem. Recently, each of the girls had become a bat mitzvah but was unable to host a celebratory event due to COVID-19. Eager to dedicate their collective milestone event as a chesed opportunity, they decided to team up with Kosher Response and reached out to the Kosher Guru and Miri Stern who orchestrated a Bat Mitzvah Chesed Event that will long be remembered — a true Kiddush Hashem.

Brimming with excitement, the girls made their way to Mount Sinai Hospital in Manhattan, bearing platters of sushi and ice cream, graciously donated by Simply Sushi and Rita’s Midwood, their faces radiating the sweetest smiles. Ambassadors of chesed, the trio was on a noble mission to provide delicious food and give back to the wonderful heroes who continue to give selflessly of themselves.

For Eli Kohn, sponsoring Kosher Response is a labor of love. “There are so many rewarding pieces to being part of this initiative,” he shares. “Just to have seen the joyful expressions on the faces of the girls and the healthcare workers was a pleasure to behold,” he shared. “It’s a wonderful hands-on chesed experience for all Kosher Response volunteers, from the very youngest participants and a much-appreciated show of gratitude to these extraordinary everyday heroes, many of whom are existing on minimal food and sleep. Kosher Response is there for them. Shabbos-in-a-Box, for example, provides all the components needed to experience Shabbos, thereby making the working situation more tenable. Elite Care is proud to sponsor Kosher Response and shares its mission of showing gratitude to the exemplars of compassion and quality care.”

“Elite Care wants to thank all those who are at greatest risk and making incredible sacrifices to help others,” says Mr. Kohn. “It’s time to give back—to step up and show our appreciation while supporting small businesses. We won’t stop until this pandemic is completely over. Let’s give back to our true heroes—the brave workers on the front lines. @kosher_response has generously arranged daily treats and meals, plus they have organized the special Shabbos-in-a-Box program for all health workers in need. We are honored to be one of their many corporate sponsors.”
