This year’s opening of schools marks precisely 50 years since the Civil Rights Act of 1964. This is the perfect time to recognize the enormous devastation that has resulted from omitting education from this most progressive bill. Tragically, while discrimination in all areas of public life was outlawed, education was specifically excluded by allowing government to usurp the right of parents and financially coerce them to send their children to government schools, or pay twice for education. Clearly, this is the civil rights issue of our time.
In addition to condemning poor and minority children to a life of deprivation at overpriced government schools, government indoctrination of our youth is harmful, and has no place in a free society. It is very easy to connect the dots from government control of education, to lack of accountability, poor quality, high costs, high drop-out rates, segregation, gangs, poverty, corruption and government run amuck.
This travesty needs to be corrected now, prior to November 4, 2014 — if we are to overcome this political coup, which has driven our nation off its Constitutional track. The very fact that restoring parental rights appears impossible is proof positive that this needs to be corrected now, while we still can.
Everyone now serving in Congress has the ability to restore parental rights and equal educational opportunity at the federal level, by championing the proposed D.C. Civil Rights Act for Equal Educational Opportunity (attached). Universal school choice is precisely what is needed to bring the boundless blessings – that only liberty can bring – to our ailing society. If those now in Congress will not act, we need to elect those who will.
As Americans who cherish the Constitution, liberty and equal rights, our votes are dedicated to those who support the Constitution, liberty and parental rights. This is the most direct way for Americans to restore our nation to its former greatness. There is no better barometer to determine whether a candidate stands for liberty than their stand on the right of parents to raise and educate their children with minimal government intrusion. Every American is needed to fix our broken government, with the leverage of our votes, and that of everyone within reach in all 50 states.
Hopefully, our efforts and prayers will be answered, and we will merit the boundless blessings needed to restore America to its former greatness, with liberty and equal justice for all.
