This past Sunday, November 20, the Young Israel of Lawrence-Cedarhurst Youth Department participated in a Thanksgiving chesed project coordinated by Rabbi Ya’akov Trump and Alyssa Schechter. Children from the community first arrived at the shul and got their hands painted to create thank-you cards for local police officers and firefighters. The group then walked to the Lawrence-Cedarhurst Fire Department where they were greeted by firefighters Andrew Parnes and Noah Kupferstein. The children were given a tour of the fire department and got to sit in the firetrucks, walk through the ambulance, and even try on some gear. Fun was had by all. Participant Tamar Scharf noted, “It’s nice to have the children show appreciation and gratitude to the men and women who help keep us safe on a daily basis.”
This is just one of the many fabulous youth-department programs going on at the Young Israel of Lawrence-Cedarhurst. This one in particular is important as we approach Thanksgiving. After a year in which many service people across the country were at risk doing their job, we wanted to show our communal appreciation for their valued service.
Have a Happy Thanksgiving!
