Avi Nessim, a sophomore at North Shore Hebrew Academy High School who resides in Atlantic Beach, was again nominated by The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society as a Student of the Year candidate. Determined to raise as much as he can, Avi invited a friend of his (Ashley Gordon) to join him as a co-candidate as well as his brother Jacob, sister Gabi, and Ashley’s younger sisters, Kaylie and Emily. Friends were also invited to join in hopes that they can make a huge impact—Danielle Friedman, Danna Kutcher, Jessica Levy, and Mikah Samuni (Avi and Ashley attended Brandeis with them; Danielle is also a 10th grader at NSHA and Danna, Jessica and Mikah are 10th graders at Hewlett HS); Ariella Geron and Jacob DeMarco are 6th grade classmates of Gabi and Kaylie. Emily is in kindergarten at Brandeis.
The name of their team is “The A Team”—in recognition of “A” for Avi and Ashley as well as Avi’s grandfather, Abraham, whom he is fundraising in memory of. Avi and Ashley attended The Brandeis School and are now both sophomores at North Shore Hebrew Academy HS.
The team has seven weeks, until April 26, to raise money for LLS. To donate or learn more, visit Avi’s fundraising page.
