Over 500 people spent a unique Shabbos in the Hamptons learning about Our Place and its mission of managing crisis within the Jewish community. The event was held over Shabbos (August 7—8) at The Hampton Synagogue Rabbi Marc Schneier Community Center.
“It was a wonderfully inspiring Shabbos and an opportunity to further awareness in the Hamptons community of Our Place’s wonderful work,” said Rabbi Aryeh Young, executive director of Our Place.
Rabbi Young was one of the featured speakers over Shabbos, giving an afternoon shiur about the upcoming month of Elul and second chances in light of the tragic death of Faigy Meyer, a’h, several weeks ago. Additionally, Rabbi Zvi Gluck, director of crisis intervention at Our Place, spoke about the many temptations facing today’s teenagers.
An overwhelmingly successful pulpit appeal raised significant funds for Our Place with a lead gift by Mr. Joseph Sprung through his Bear Givers Foundation. Our Place will be dedicating its music room in honor of the Westhampton Beach community and the space will be named The Hampton Synagogue Music Room.
“We are completely overwhelmed by the kindness shown to us here by our Hamptons family,” said Rabbi Young. “This is our third consecutive year reaching out to the community, and they continue to welcome us here with open arms and have displayed their commitment to Our Place and the future of our young adults through their kindness and their incredible generosity.” This year’s event was co-chaired by Westhampton Beach residents Helen and Itchy Adelson, Elaine and Bernie Schickman, and Abigail S. Moore and Len Wasserman.
After Havdallah, the weekend continued with a gala motzaeiShabbat featuring the sidesplitting comedy of the legendary Sarge who has entertained audiences all over the world. Men and women of all ages doubled over in laughter, as Sarge kept the audience rolling well past the intended 11:00 p.m. end-time for the show. The evening concluded with a gala reception, featuring wine, cheese, and sushi, sponsored by Herzog Wine Cellars, Main Event Caterers, and Eden Wok of New Rochelle.
