The deranged individual who mailed more than a dozen pipe bombs to high-profile members of the Democratic Party was caught, thank G-d. Within just a few days he was in custody. The mentally unstable man responsible for sending them, Caesar Sayok, was a registered Republican who decided to eliminate people who were against President Trump. His targets included members of the Obama administration as well as other outspoken celebrities.

The first pipe bomb he sent was intended for George Soros or, as some aptly refer to him, George Tzoros. The following people were targeted after that. Hillary Clinton and Barack Obama, both of whom need no introduction or identification. He then sent one to former CIA director John Brennan and one to Florida Democratic Representative Debbie Wasserman Schultz. The next person he targeted was California Democratic Representative Maxine Waters. He also sent two pipe bombs to former VP Joe Biden. Actor Robert De Niro was the next intended target. Certainly, nobody deserves to receive pipe bombs, but maybe De Niro should stick to acting and keep his nose out of politics. Why would anyone want the thoughts or opinions of a man who makes his living by speaking words he got from reading a script? New Jersey Democratic Senator Cory Booker got the next one, and this was followed by the ones that went to former director of national intelligence James Clapper, California Senator Kamala Harris, and, lastly, billionaire liberal activist Tom Steyer.

Nobody can be certain how he chose his targets because who knows what goes on in the mind of a sick man? There is not one individual on the aforementioned list whom I like or trust. Listening to them raises my blood pressure. But there is not a single one I would want to see killed or injured. I would like to have them temporarily silenced, but my thoughts run along the lines of a bad toothache or a sore throat. No one deserves to receive a pipe bomb.

The stress was reminiscent of how high the tension was during the reign of the Unabomber. So the public was both grateful and relieved when Sayok was caught and taken into custody. Unfortunately, the relief was short-lived. Within two days of Sayok being caught, another crackpot made the news when Robert Bowers killed Jews as they prayed on Shabbos in a synagogue. The pain is raw and too horrific to elaborate upon, so I will leave it at that and turn my thoughts to another issue.

Apparently, some folks, many of them the aforementioned people who received pipe bombs, learned absolutely nothing. For them it has become a partisan issue, as usual, and for that reason Trump was accused of being responsible for Sayok’s actions and again for the hatred that Bowers had for Jews and thus for what he did. There was not one word said about Louis Farrakhan being responsible despite his recent comment that Jews are termites. Also unmentioned was the fact that Barack Obama, Bill Clinton, and Keith Ellison all sat on the same platform with Farrakhan. This is positively amazing and discouraging but not a surprise.

According to Trump’s opponents, he is responsible for everything and anything that happens. If this is true, I think I might also want to weigh in here (no pun intended) and register a complaint. Last month, I gained two pounds and I feel justified in blaming Trump for the gain. I was watching one of his rallies on television and was munching on chips; ergo, he is responsible for those two unwanted pounds.

This past Shabbos, as fellow Jews were being slaughtered in Pittsburgh, those living in the New York area were dealing with high winds and rain. As I looked out my window, I saw my garbage cans fly by. It looks like Trump was at it again; he must be responsible for the stormy weather.

These accusations make about the same sense as considering him responsible for the pipe-bomb attacks and the slaughter of Jews. But that’s just the way it is!

Baruch Dayan Ha’emet. And to the families of those who were murdered, may G-d console you among the other mourners of Zion and Jerusalem.
