Congregation Knesseth Israel, the White Shul, is looking forward to a historic Shabbos this weekend, May 4. The community at large is invited to come and hear from two gedolei Torah–the Rishon L’Tzion and Sephardic Chief Rabbi HaRav Shlomo Amar, together with Rav Hershel Schachter, rosh yeshiva and rosh kollel at Yeshivas Rabbeinu Yitzchak Elchanan.

The Shabbos will focus on Yerushalayim Ir Hakodesh, commemorating the upcoming Yom Yerushalayim. There will be an oneg Shabbos for men at 9:00 p.m. on Friday evening at the home of Rabbi and Rebbetzin Feiner at 744 Henry Road in Far Rockaway, as well as an all-women’s oneg Shabbos at 9:15 with Rabbanit Amar in the home of Lori and Freddie Marton at 2 Forest Lane in Lawrence.

The derashah on Shabbos morning will be given before Mussaf by HaRav Amar relating to Yom Yerushalayim. A gala kiddush will follow davening. On Shabbos afternoon, at 5:45 p.m. there will be a shiur for men and women given jointly by HaRav Amar and HaRav Schachter on the topic of “The Sanctity of Jerusalem: Focusing on the Temple Mount and halachos of the Kotel. Minchah will follow at 7:00 p.m., followed by a communal seudah shlishis in the ballroom, at which time both HaRav Amar and HaRav Schachter will speak on the topic of “The Chag of Shavuos in Halachah and Hashkafah.”
