Women of the community are in for a special treat on Wednesday, July 11, when the Five Towns Yoetzet Initiative hosts “Wine and Wisdom,” at Congregation Beth Sholom at 8 p.m.
The event features Yoetzet Halacha and local Rebbetzin Lisa Septimus and psychotherapist Rachel Hercman exploring topics and questions related to mikvah and intimacy.
“Lisa is an incredible resource for women in the community in regards to matters of taharat mishpacha,” said Dr. Alissa Hersh, a member of the Yoetzet Committee. “Yoatzot study at the Jeannie Schottenstein Center for Advanced Torah Study for Women at Nishmat for more than 1,000 hours, and are widely accepted in Israel and in many communities in America. In fact, the Orthodox Union recognizes the expertise of yoatzot for fostering more women asking questions and better adhering to family purity laws.”
But when it comes to the laws of Niddah, laws of family purity, questions are both more necessary and more complicated than in some other areas of Jewish law,” said Septimus. “Questions are more necessary because of the minimal education that women receive in this area until right before getting married, when they are taught these essential laws in the couple of months before their weddings.”
