With their futures uncertain in the only country many of them have known as home, African migrant students at a school in Tel Aviv took part in a Passover Seder on Tuesday.

The celebration — marking the Jewish holiday of freedom — came ahead of a looming April 1 Israeli government deadline, after which members of the country’s African migrant community of around 40,000 face forced deportation to a third country or jail.

“We’re afraid of being deported to an unfamiliar country where we do not know the language or culture,” Monica, an 18-year-old student at the Bialik-Rogozin School, told Channel 10.
