Abarbanel brand wines are out with their first new vintages and first new products since 2010. Abarbanel is one of the oldest marquee brands of quality kosher wines, having been one of the pioneers in high-end kosher wines starting back at Passover 1992. To help celebrate its 21st Passover season, Abarbanel introduces three new wines which are generally available wherever quality kosher wines are sold:
Beaujolais Villages. Produced at Chateau de la Salle from old vines (40 to 100 years old), this handcrafted estate wine comes from France’s only 100 percent kosher Beaujolais winery. Full of Gamay fruit along with the light liveliness you expect from Beaujolais, this red is perfect for spring and summer. 2012 vintage. non-mevushal. Hand-harvested. Only 1,500 cases produced. Abarbanel was first with kosher Beaujolais in 1992 and is the leader in this varietal today.
Cabernet-Merlot Blend. A 50/50 blend of Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot from mature vines in the estate vineyards surrounding Ouveillan in France’s Aude Valley Region, this is a sophisticated old-world Bordeaux-style blend, medium-bodied, dry with delicate notes of wild berry fruits and minimal tannins for immediate enjoyment. A great food-pairing wine. Mevushal. 2011 vintage. Limited production with grapes sourced primarily from the Les Terres Noires single vineyard.
Cabernet Sauvignon. This is a medium-bodied Cab that will delight with its blackberry, tobacco, and coffee notes. Low tannins so it’s ready-to-go. Abarbanel Cabernet has been popular since its very first vintage in 1994 and is still handcrafted by the same winemaker. Like the Cabernet-Merlot, this wine’s grapes are sourced mainly from a single vineyard (Les Dolmens Rouges) near Ouveillan and the Aude River. Mevushal. 2011 vintage. Limited production.
All three wines have a suggested retail price of under $15 so they are a great value for the Seders and yom tovim where a lot of wine is called for. For 2013, Abarbanel brand wines have all new packaging with a sophisticated, youthful urban, minimalist look.
Consumers can purchase these wines at Onlykosherwine.com or at their favorite wine shops. Retailers can order from Admiral Imports at 800-582-WINE (9463) and have delivery for the next day. For more information about Abarbanel wines, please visit www.abarbanel.com. v
