Anthony D'Esposito visits Southern Border

As the United States continues to grapple with the ongoing southern border security crisis, Hempstead Town Councilman and candidate for Congress, Anthony D’Esposito, visited the El Paso region of Texas to consult with residents, law enforcement officials, and business leaders adversely impacted by the Biden Administration’s disastrous porous border policies. D’Esposito, along with members of a delegation of visiting Republican officials, pledged to support the immediate implementation of border security enhancement measures in a GOP led Congress, and reverse Biden’s open border policies which have contributed to the national increase in violent crime.

“Under President Biden’s watch, the United States’ southern border with Mexico has become a lawless wasteland where drug smugglers, vicious criminals, and dangerous terrorists can freely move with ease thanks to the administration’s hands-off approach to border security,” said D’Esposito. “This open-door policy hurts not just Americans living along our southern border, but also communities across the United States impacted by the importation of drugs and criminals.”

Since assuming office, President Biden has presided over a deteriorating security situation along the United States’ southern border. Indeed, the Biden Administration’s security ineptitude is evidenced by the over 1 million illegal border crossers encountered by U.S. Border Patrol agents in just the first six months of fiscal year 2022. Adding to that startling number, there have been roughly 200,000 illegal migrants apprehended in July 2022 alone—representing a 325% increase from the average number of illegal migrants nabbed in July during the previous administration. What’s more, in a startling display of the humanitarian impact this crisis has wrought, there have been 609 reported deaths of migrants attempting to cross the southern border into the United States so far this year through July—already a marked increase from the 247 yearly deaths reported in 2020.

While the United States’ lightly guarded southern border has attracted record numbers of migrants, it has also acted as a gateway for drug smugglers peddling their dangerous wares into communities across America. In July 2022, nearly 2,100 pounds of fentanyl was seized by federal agents from smugglers, compared to the 780 pounds seized in July of last year—evidence of a cross-border drug pipeline fueling the opioid overdose epidemic that claimed 108,000 lives last year across the United States.

“President Biden and his enablers in Congress seem content to ignore the national crisis occurring along our southern border,” said D’Esposito. “A Republican led House of Representatives will hold the Biden Administration accountable for its abandonment of the border and will ensure the United States no longer lets criminals cross into our country with impunity.”

The ongoing crisis at the United States’ southern border is heightened by the Biden Administration’s abandonment of both federal and local law enforcement agencies charged with keeping the peace in the region. In meetings with members of the National Border Patrol Council and other area law enforcement leaders, D’Esposito pledged a significant increase in material aid to agencies tasked with peacekeeping duties along the border. Citing his experience as an NYPD Detective with over 700 arrests, D’Esposito vowed that a Republican led House of Representatives would serve as a reliable partner for border-region law enforcement agencies—a stark contrast from the pro-open border radicals currently wielding power in Washington D.C.

“The United States is on the wrong track thanks to President Biden’s surrender to the far-left, open border proponents currently driving the policymaking process in the Democrat controlled Congress,” said D’Esposito. “In Congress, I pledge to restore order to our southern border region, stop the Democrats’ disastrous open-door policies, and empower America’s brave law enforcement professionals who work tirelessly to prevent criminals and their harmful contraband from flowing into our country.”
