Comedian Ashley Blaker

In the midst of a national lockdown, there’s never been a greater need for an event to lift the community’s spirits.

That’s why this Sunday (April 5) at 3:00 p.m. EST, JW3—the Jewish Community Centre for London—is hosting internationally acclaimed comedian Ashley Blaker in a comedy show like no other. Don’t worry about the threat of infection—Ashley will be performing alone onstage to a completely empty theatre. Every comedian’s worst nightmare is now a reality of our times.

Ashley Blaker is the star of two Off-Broadway runs and his own BBC Radio 4 show. He is also no stranger to JW3. He has performed six sold-out nights on the main stage including his previous solo shows ‘Ungefiltered’ and ‘Meshuga Frum’, as well as ‘Prophet Sharing’, Blaker’s highly praised joint show with Muslim comic Imran Yusuf.

This time around, Blaker is returning to tread the boards on JW3’s main stage, but with a difference. He’s looking forward to seeing nothing but empty seats!

A huge crowd is still expected for Ashley Blaker: Alone At JW3, with a live audience able to immerse themselves in the show remotely, thanks to JW3 TV on JewishOnline, JW3’s new online streaming and events platform.

In these strange new times, Blaker will perform a new show about home-schooling, self-isolation, and preparing for Passover in exceptional circumstances.

The event will also be the first time at JW3 that tickets are available on a ‘pay what you can’ basis. Given the challenging circumstances we all face, both headliner and venue are determined that this unique and much-needed show is genuinely open to all.

Tickets are available now for Ashley Blaker: Alone At JW3 at https://tickets.jw3.org.uk/booking/production/bestavailable/54370?performance=.

Ashley Blaker notes, “I have so enjoyed every time I have performed at JW3 so if I was going to do a show like this anywhere, it would be in their theatre. I have seen lots of shows with comedians performing on Zoom from their homes, but I am delighted that Raymond and JW3 have given me the opportunity to try something really different. I hope it brings some light relief to the community across the UK and around the world.”

Raymond Simonson, CEO at JW3, agrees, “In the short time since we had to close our doors, we’ve created JW3 TV as our virtual Jewish Community Centre, and launched JewishOnline as a platform to bring the whole community together in these difficult times. I could not think of a better person to commission to write and headline our first ever JW3 TV live comedy show than the hilarious Ashley Blaker. Stand-up comedy demands a live audience, so join us on Sunday night for your own front-row seat without leaving the house. This will be a hilarious and memorable night to lift the spirits, no matter where you are.”

JW3 is a state-of-the-art Jewish community and cultural venue in North West London, a charity established for the benefit of the Jewish community, the local community, and for the people of London. 
