The president of the Central Council of Jews in Germany is calling the country’s military to employ rabbis, Deutsche Welle reported.
The report quoted a column Josef Schuster penned for the Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung newspaper.
He wrote, “Seventy years after the end of World War II, it’s time to again establish a Jewish military chaplaincy in the Bundeswehr and to build on an old tradition.”
According to Deutsche Welle, around 300 Jewish soldiers currently serve in the German armed forces.
