(February 1, 2023 / JNS) Palestinian terrorists fired one rocket from the Gaza Strip towards Israel on Wednesday evening, the Israel Defense Forces confirmed.
The projectile was intercepted by the Iron Dome anti-missile defense system.
Sirens sounded in the city of Sderot and Kibbutz Nir Am nearby.
It comes after a barrage of rockets were launched from the Palestinian enclave at Israeli communities last week, prompting retaliatory strikes by the IDF against Hamas assets.
That exchange came after nine Palestinians were killed during heavy clashes between Palestinian Islamic Jihad and Israeli troops in Jenin in northern Samaria last Thursday morning.
Wednesday’s rocket attack risks further heightening tensions following two Palestinian terrorist shootings over Shabbat, one of which killed seven people at a synagogue in Jerusalem.
