For several months I had been kvetching about the Hollywood elite —specifically Jews—who had not spoken out in support of Israel. Mea culpa! Apparently I was unaware that indeed there have been many who have spoken out and shown support for Israel. Every Jew should be on board with Israel and should openly say so. And it is celebrities who have the ability to reach a great many people. I do express here some hesitancy about naming those who have defended Israel because of the likelihood, if not the certainty, that I will inadvertently be leaving some (perhaps many) people out. And to those people, I offer a sincere apology.

Some of the celebrities who have publicly supported Israel are, to name just a few, are Gal Gadot, Jerry Seinfeld, Jamie Lee Curtis, Chris Pine, Mayim Bialik, Liev Schreiber, Amy Schumer, and Michael Douglas. Steven Spielberg has spoken vehemently and forcefully about the rise in anti-Semitism. And it is a comfort to note that not all supporters are Jewish. Others have spoken out as well. Leonardo DiCaprio, for one, has contributed tremendous funds to Israeli firms. And the last time I checked he was not Jewish but was raised as a Catholic.

However, it is important to note that nothing succeeds like comedy. Everyone loves to laugh and needs to laugh. As they say, “laughter is the best medicine” and right now we can use a little medicine. A recent clip of Jerry Seinfeld might provide some medicine. He was performing and he brilliantly responded to a group of loud and disruptive Palestinian supporters that were in the audience. Seinfeld was nothing short of spectacular. Most of the protesters were likely hired by organizers and paid a small amount of cash. Jerry put them down in the best way possible while at the same time keeping the majority of audience members laughing uproariously. For those who haven’t seen the clip, I urge you to try your best to find it. It will warm your hearts. Seinfeld is a true talent because he was able to effectively treat a subject as serious as anti-Semitism with humor and, as we all know, there is nothing humorous about that topic.

Hezbollah must be checked and choked! Therefore, at the moment, war in Lebanon is looming and, as always, our concern is for possible IDF losses. However, we remain strong and we trust in Hashem to guide us. Am Yisrael Chai—that’s the way it is!
